Active Release for the Hamstrings

Active Release for the Hamstrings is very important to long term health of everyone.  The hamstrings play an important role in everyday life as they are a key muscle in standing.  Hamstrings are negatively effected by a weakness or inability to relax the muscles the flex the hip. (Psoas, Iliacus)  This causes the glute muscles to become weak and the hamstrings are then recruited more to maintain the standing position.  In time the hamstrings become less flexible and remain in an increased state of tension.  Also, tissues connected to the hamstrings can become irritated and experience a decrease in mobility.(Sacral ligaments, Sacrotuberous Ligament).

Active Release is very effective for restoring proper length and tension to these tissues.  ART is also excellent for identifying areas where the muscles an ligaments may be adhering  to the nerve tissues.  These adhesions can be responsible for radiating nerve pain or numbness.
