Functional Movement and the Golf Swing

The golf swing is a very complex movement. It is very difficult to consistently master due to the exact timing and sequence necessary to create the perfect swing. As part of the TPI analysis and treatment functional movement is used as a tool to identify asymmetries and and dysfunctional movement patterns.

Functional Movement analysis is a series of tests of the qualitative movement of the body. This means that the doctor will look at how smooth or effortless the movements are instead of immediately starting by looking at specific ranges of motion.

This ease of movement is especially important in the golf swing because any restriction in the joints of the hips, thorax, arms will create the need for the golfer to utilize a compensatory movement to make up for the restriction in the swing. This compensation pattern further complicates the swing and creates an increased demand on the hand-eye coordination of the golfer to fix the flaw in the swing.
