Why Treat the Nerves

Nerves FrontThe nerves in our body are responsible for transmitting signals to and from the brain.  These nerves are carrying sensory information from the body back to the brain and carrying the responses to these signals, from the brain back to the body. So ensuring that these two very important tasks can be completed by each and every nerve in the body is crucial to maintain health.

These nerves unfortunately can be damaged or irritated in many different ways.  The most common way is that they are squished or pulled on by the muscles, tendons and ligaments that surround the nerves.  The biggest problem with a nerve being irritated or damaged by the surrounding tissue is the physical  irritation can cause that nerve to “fire”.   When that irritated nerve “fires”, the nerve sends a signal to the muscles that it is connected to, telling them to  contract.  This situation usually gets worse by the nerve becoming more irritated due to the physical irritation and the muscles are then forced to contract more and more.  This causes further irritation to the nerve and the cycle of irritation and muscle contraction continues. This is one of the main reasons that many conditions don’t resolve until the nerve is treated directly.

Active Release treatment resolves many of these difficult cases because it can be used to free the nerve from the area of irritation.  Nerves normally can slide back and forth with the movement of the body.  When a nerve becomes entrapped, the nerve no longer can slide freely.  Active Release techniques are designed to restore this free movement and ultimately restore normal function.
